We provide education and skills development through a proven global training curriculum, customized to our business environment, and through on the job training provided by multiple different assignments over a career. This helps us develop competent and committed employees who are fully prepared to meet future business needs, both locally and globally. To strengthen our technical capacity, more than 70 percent of our investment is directed to professional and technical training. In addition, about 500 employees at various management levels participate in Petro Oil development training programs, of which about 30 percent are women and 60 percent are employees.
Occidental offers summer internships in our oil and gas and chemical divisions to students with be significant.Our summer intern program stresses hands-on participation with an emphasis on completing a summer project. Projects are designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Knowledge gained and work completed are assessed at the end of the internship period through a presentation and poster session where interns describe their projects to Occidental employees in a variety educational backgrounds in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, Petrochemical, and Electrical Engineering; Geophysics and Geology; Land Management; and Health, Environment and Safety (HES). We also offer a limited number of internships for students with backgrounds in other disciplines.
Occidental internships typically last 10 to 12 weeks. Students are given a lot of responsibility and are expected to assist in developing new projects, contribute to existing research and operations, and become familiar with various aspects of the industry. Interns are treated much like newly hired employees, and the contributions they make can of departments. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience in making presentations, and it’s a reminder that a broad range of skills is essential to professional success.
